Leonardo da Vinci: Painter at the Court of Milan, at the National Gallery

We went to see the current show at National Gallery, which gathers more paintings of da Vinci’s than have ever been seen together in London.

His ability to model is phenomenal, though his paintings of women in particular are very stylised. The one exception being La Belle Ferroniere, which seems remarkably worldly, though the curator disagrees with me on this.

I love Lady with Ermine, and am fond of the smokier of the two Virgin of the Rocks present, but what I really wouldn’t mind on my wall is the Burlington House cartoon, which is just stunning.

Leaving the venue, there was a quartet playing classical cheese in a delightful fashion. They were giggling throughout, and very competent.
