Birthday celebrations at Moro, poetry slam and so forth

Went to Rhett’s 40th birthday party in London. Food at Moro, a lovely (but noisy) place on Exmouth Market. Great tiles in the bathrooms. Very yummy. The bread was irresistible, which is not something I normally find. Some fun and interesting people there, I ended up talking a lot to a guy called Ben, who is a film producer. We quickly veered off the sensible path into surreal.

Poetry ‘slam’ was partly fun, partly painful. An Irish guy probably had the best poetry (and good delivery), a couple of young guys did self-conscious but good presentations too. Some earnestness without sufficient depth and stringency to work. Interesting, but patchy. The overall impression was of vibrancy, though.

A lovely night all round!
