Language shapes the way we think

Yes! I have thought this a long time. Maybe as a product of being a native Swedish speaker and naturalised English speaker, but even before that. Language is the scaffolding which we use to think.

This article describes the theory of Nicholas Evans of the Australian National University in Canberra and Stephen Levinson of the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, and there is a link to a web publication where you can download the full paper.

With each language that dies, an entire thought structure dies. Unesco has an interactive map with languages that are endangered or extinct.
